I discovered Annie’s blog, The Elements of Style in early January. I quickly noted, ‘we have so many things in common’ and have been itching to send her a note ever since. When she announced her pregnancy a couple of weeks ago, I finally got up the courage to put pen to paper.

Dear Annie,

Congratulations! I am so happy for you and Peter. I have been wanting to send you a little note for sometime, seeing as though we share so many interests (and an alma mater). Your baby news gave me the perfect excuse to introduce myself properly, through the post of course.

I’ve enjoyed following your adventures on The Elements of Style–naturally, my favorite tales include the adorable Rosie. And forgive me for being presumptuous, but I think we would get along swimmingly. I’m going to go out on a bit of a limb here and suggest a cup of tea sometime. What do you say? I’m enclosing my calling card so you can reach me if you wish. Congratulations again. Feel good!
